Miba/Zollern-ZM Series Design Specifications
The Miba ZM-type horizontal bearing is designed according to DIN 31694 standard specifications and is suitable for various heavy-duty applications (e.g., motors, turbines, and test benches). The modular system is applicable to different types of bearings (e.g., supports, end flanges, and center flanges), meaning that different modules of this system can always be combined. Thus, assembly is straightforward, and errors due to screw and pin positioning are avoided during installation, commissioning, and maintenance.

Oil Lubrication
Full self-lubrication is achieved via a loose oil ring. Alternatively, in cases where the bearing is lubricated by an external oil circulation system, this loose oil ring can be used for an emergency shutdown without damage in the event of a system failure. Z-type bearings can be used in marine applications, meeting the requirements for shipboard movement through the use of oil ring guides.
Sealing
Seals are selected based on different operating conditions and the required protection level. The standard configuration consists of a floating labyrinth seal (IP 44) made from high-temperature-resistant, fiber-reinforced synthetic material. Bearings with high oil volumes are equipped with adjustable rigid aluminum alloy seals (IP 44). If the bearings operate in dusty or humid environments, or if rotating components (clutches, couplings, fans, etc.) are in close proximity to the bearings, both types of seals can be equipped with bolt-on shields (IP 55) or dirt flingers (IP 54). Special seals, such as those providing higher protection or pressurized seals, are available for specific applications. Detailed information is provided upon request. End covers are used when the shaft end is located within the bearing.
Electrical Insulation
To prevent stray currents conducted through the shaft, Z-type bearings are optionally available with electrical insulation. In this case, the spherical seat of the housing is coated with a wear-resistant and temperature-resistant synthetic material.
Oil Selection
Branded mineral oils (preferably those resistant to foaming, aging, and oxidation) are recommended as lubricants. The viscosity for each application is selected using the Zollern bearing design computer program. The output results are provided with each quotation.
Temperature Monitoring
The standard provision includes mounting temperature sensors in both the journal bushing and the oil sump. The type of sensor used depends on the method of reading (direct readout, centralized control systems, recording instruments). Two different and independent temperature sensors can be installed.
